Get Set! Go!

Dear KCPians (Students, Staff, Parents, Alumni, Board Members)

A Blessed New Year to all of you and warmest greetings in the name of the Lord!

2007 came and gone- faster than a minnow can swim a dipper!  We scored many “hits” and missed some as we strived to cater to the diverse needs of KCPians through Different Folks, Different Strokes.  Regardless, 2007 was an exciting year as we galvanized the school community to accomplish the many targets and programmes we set out to achieve.

2007 was also a year of many firsts – a Golf Tournament, the Korean Cultural Immersion Programme, a Hong Kong – Singapore cross-border web-based research project, a Top 10 team in The Arena, a Band Concert, a People Developer Standard (PDS) certification, and the list goes on.  As a school, why are we doing all these?

It is very easy for us to fall into the trap of doing something for the sake of doing, especially when we lose sight of our vision and mission.  As I look back, I thank God for His provisions and guidance as the school continue to grow and glow.
Any track and field athlete would agree with me that when the command ‘On the Mark’ is given, one would psyche oneself up physically, emotionally and mentally. Next, the command ‘Get Set’ is the last moment to prime oneself before the ‘take off’.  Then comes the ‘Go’ and the rest is history.  This procedural routine applies to any race, whether it is the thundering thrust of the 100m sprint or the grueling 5000m endurance run.

Indeed, the past three years have been a time of consolidation and capacity building for us in anticipation of the challenges and the blessings ahead.  The period can be likened to the ‘On the Mark’ phase.  As a school, we mapped out the way forward through our re-envisioning processes in late 2004, and it continued throughout 2005.  With that, we create platforms, design programmes and scaffold processes to prepare ourselves adequately for the ‘take off’.  Apart from gearing up in terms of skills and knowledge, the three years’ journey has also been a journey of faith and a paradigm shift as we see and practice the art of possibilities, and we are ever willing to question and challenge our own glass ceiling.

We are now ready to ‘Get Set’ and ‘Go’.  KCPians, I urge all of you come on board and prime ourselves to receive the blessings awaiting us as we continue to discipline ourselves and stay focused.

Be encouraged!  Keep faith!  The NIKE will come!
